Community Relations Specialist

Loudoun Water, a public water and wastewater utility located in Ashburn, Virginia, is looking for an experienced and talented Community Relations Specialist, reporting to the Director of Community Relations. The individual will assist in our public outreach initiatives, develop and oversee digital media products, and support overall communications efforts for Loudoun Water.

Responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing stakeholder outreach plans
Writing and editing promotional materials and Web content, including news releases, annual reports and brochures
Responding to customer requests for information and materials
Managing and staffing community events representing Loudoun Water
Making presentations to community organizations and schools as needed
Developing and maintaining both Internet and Intranet web sites, and working with key stakeholders, including local government staff and the news media, when needed.

Qualifications: BA/BS degree in journalism, communications, public relations, environmental science or related field. At least 5 years of communications, public relations, or community outreach experience with 1 -3 years of web development skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products as well as Macromedia’s Dreamweaver and Contribute software (or content management software in general). Familiarity with other Adobe software helpful but not essential.

Special Requirements: Work variable schedules, including unscheduled overtime and
occasional weekends, and with occasional local travel. Accreditation in public relations
desired. Bilingual in Spanish desirable.
