Director of Water Treatment

Job summary: The ideal candidate will direct, manage, supervise and coordinate the activities of the treatment division consisting of separate departments for the Broad Run Water Reclamation Facility (an 11 million gallons per day state-of-the-art facility), approximately thirty  smaller self contained water and /or waste water treatment systems, and  the central laboratory/water quality.  The Director is responsible for providing leadership in planning, organizing, and coordinating all functions performed by these departments.  The position is also the official liaison with State and County Agencies, ensuring proper permitting of all operating elements of facilities.

Scope of Responsibilities:  Responsibility requires application of professional and managerial principles and judgment, within the overall direction established by the Deputy General Manager of Operations.  The ideal candidate is a strong multi-tasker with the ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively determine proper course of action or alternative.   Frequent interaction with other departments and divisions is necessary, as is providing detailed procedural explanations and technical responses.  The position is responsible for external relationships and securing necessary permits, and interfacing with professional bodies or agencies.  The ideal candidate is a skilled leader and manager that can lead the development of staff and oversee division budget and contract processes.  The position also keeps individuals informed by making oral and written presentations within the organization and to the Board of Directors.

Education and Experience:  This position requires a BS degree in civil or environmental engineering or related field.  At least 15 years experience in engineering and advanced management skills in administration of personnel.    At least five years of proven experience at senior management level.  At least 10 years of experience in the design and operation of water and /or wastewater treatment facilities is preferred.

Special Requirements: Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia is preferred. An MS in civil or environmental engineering or an MBA is preferred. Work overtime as needed.
