We also collect personally identifiable information from business partners that utilize Loudoun Water products and services. Personally identifiable information collected from customers and business partners typically include name, street address, phone number, e-mail address, and social security number.
Loudoun Water collects and stores water consumption data from our customer's meter. Billing information, such as a bank account or a credit card number may also be requested if a customer uses our online payment system. Loudoun Water uses this information to facilitate billing and payment transactions and to fulfill customer requests for service. We also use this information to send service announcements and newsletters, to conduct surveys, and to notify our customers about issues that may affect service.
Information security is critical to our business. All personally identifiable information, as well as bill payment history and meter read information, is stored on secured servers in a locked data center. All personally identifiable information is protected by industry standard security technologies such as firewalls, access controls, encrypted transfer protocols, and intrusion monitoring. Best practices for information security are employed. All elements of our security program are periodically reviewed, tested, and updated.
Use of Third Party Payment Systems
Loudoun Water currently uses a third party to collect payments online. This third party payment provider is the only location where our customer's bank or credit card information is held. This third party conforms to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). Loudoun Water shares personally identifiable information with this payment provider via secured communication channels.
