Loudoun Water has anticipated broad interest in the Broad Run Water Reclamation Facility. Its state-of-the-art treatment technology will draw visitors in the water treatment field from around the country. More importantly, it will be of great interest to the community it serves. Whether it be the technology employed, the novelty of having such a unique facility in their backyard or a curiosity of the facility and how it will impact its surrounding community, Loudoun Water expects and hopes many local residents will visit the site.
Areas of the facility, where water treatment technology is employed, will not be conducive to a meaningful customer experience. There will be a lot of large tanks and structures whose function will not be perfectly apparent to a visitor passing through.
For this reason, Loudoun Water decided to develop – with help from a citizen advisory group – an outdoor interpretive area adjacent to the plant that would provide a unique and relaxing way for customers to learn about and celebrate water in Loudoun County. Loudoun Water is also building an indoor education center to complement the outdoor interpretive area.
