LCSA Wins Green Business Award

Date: May  21, 2007

Leesburg – The Loudoun County Sanitation Authority (LCSA) was honored with a Green Business Award from the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) May 20, 2007 during LWC’s Annual Meeting.

According to Nicole Hamilton, LWC president, the panel of judges was impressed with LCSA’s continuous work in water conservation education and outreach, as well as LCSA’s incorporation of best practices such as LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) into the design of its Broad Run Water Reclamation Facility and Administrative Services Facility.

LCSA General Manager Dale Hammes said, "LCSA is honored to be recognized for environmental stewardship. We greatly appreciate the chance to do our part to protect Loudoun's natural resources and wildlife habitats through improved water quality and water conservation outreach, and we most appreciate and rely on the guidance and partnership we enjoy from local groups like the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy."

The Green Business Award recognizes businesses that have demonstrated outstanding leadership in habitat protection and restoration in Loudoun County. LWC launched the award in 2007 to further its mission of preserving wildlife habitat through innovative partnerships within the business community.

The award criteria were based on three components:

Education and Outreach to the Community—Promoting habitat protection awareness and encouraging community participation through environmental education and outreach efforts.
Impact on Ecosystem—Conducting activities that protect, preserve or restore habitat in Loudoun County.
Ongoing commitment to habitat preservation and restoration—Having a sustainable program for habitat preservation and restoration.

LWC’s Annual Meeting was held at the Audubon Naturalist Society Rust Sanctuary in Leesburg, VA.
