This Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 6:30 pm, Loudoun Water staff will present and seek public input on a water supply plan to meet future growth in eastern Loudoun. The presentation is open to the general public, and will be held at Loudoun Water’s Administrative Office, 44865 Loudoun Water Way in Ashburn. Directions are available at www.loudounwater.org.
It is estimated that 40 million additional gallons per day (mgd) will be needed to meet future growth in eastern Loudoun by the year 2040. Loudoun Water staff and consultants have examined the possible solutions and come up with two main options: buy the additional 40 mgd from Fairfax Water (Loudoun Water’s current provider), or build a combination water treatment plant and raw water storage system, using the Potomac River as the source. Staff representatives will illustrate both options and discuss the evaluation criteria, such as cost, environmental impact and public acceptance. Immediately following the presentation the floor will be open for questions and discussion.
Loudoun Water plans to make a final decision, using input from this and other stakeholder meetings, later this year.
