Raspberry Falls Update January 14, 2011
Dear Raspberry Falls Resident:
On January 4, 2011, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors requested that Loudoun Water study a pipeline extension of Leesburg Town water to Raspberry Falls as part of its response to the Virginia Department of Health’s determination that Well PW-1 is groundwater under the direct influence of surface water (GUDI). Yesterday, the Loudoun Water Board of Directors passed a resolution accepting the Board of Supervisors’ request. Funding of the study was also authorized and Loudoun Water staff was directed to develop an agreement with the Town of Leesburg to perform the study. (Full text of the resolution is available by clicking here.)
The resolution is intended to provide information to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and Leesburg Town Council to facilitate their decision whether to authorize the possible extension of Leesburg municipal water. The resolution is not intended to defer or interrupt the current testing and regulatory approval of Well F and continued operation of the System as originally designed and approved.
This study will be conducted in addition to the treatment studies detailed by Loudoun Water’s Board of Directors in a resolution it passed on December 9, 2010. In the December resolution, Loudoun Water’s Board directed Loudoun Water staff to prepare facility plans for the purpose of evaluating the following measures: 1) a water treatment plant for all potable water wells to serve Raspberry Falls; 2) a water treatment plant for all potable wells to serve Selma Estates; and 3) a water treatment plant to serve all potable wells to serve Raspberry Falls and Selma Estates. The December resolution did not include the Leesburg pipeline option because the Board of Supervisors' land use policies do not allow a pipeline from Leesburg. (The full text of the December 9, 2010 resolution can be found by clicking here.)
Time is of the essence and Loudoun Water staff is diligently moving forward to provide the information needed to determine the best possible long-term solution. We will continue to keep you updated about our progress on a consistent basis. These updates will continue to be emailed and posted on the Raspberry Falls page of our website.
Sincerely,
Dale Hammes
