Loudoun Water Board Resolution Regarding Raspberry Falls
Date:
December
10, 2010
Dear Raspberry Falls Residents:
Last night, Loudoun Water’s Board of Directors passed a resolution directing our staff to consider several options that are consistent with the Loudoun County Revised General Plan in response to the determination that PW-1 is under the direct influence of surface water. A copy of the resolution is attached to this email and posted online on the Raspberry Falls page of our website, found by clicking here.
The Board’s resolution is in response to the VDH’s November 23rd letter informing Loudoun Water of the PW-1 GUDI determination. (The letter can also be found on the Raspberry Falls page.) While the treated water delivered by Loudoun Water has always met federal and state drinking water standards, the PW-1 GUDI determination reminds us of the nature of wells in karst geology and how they can change over time. This resolution directs Loudoun Water staff to build upon work previously conducted in 2008 to evaluate the various options that are now available for surface water treatment. This work will begin immediately and will be conducted over the next several months.
GUDI determinations are specific to each well because of the uniqueness of the karst geology surrounding each well. Raspberry Falls’ PW-2 well remains in service and test results continue to confirm that PW-2 is an acceptable ground water source and not GUDI. PW-2 will provide enough water for usage this winter. We are planning to bring a new well currently under development, Well F, on-line by spring 2011 to meet elevated demands. A full list of Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about the GUDI determination can be found by clicking here.
We will continue to keep you informed about our progress on a consistent basis with updates via email and through our website.
Sincerely,
Dale Hammes
General Manager
