Water is supplied to Raspberry Falls by two community wells, PW-1 and PW-2. Since May of 2008 Loudoun Water has been investigating a bacteriological issue with the raw water in PW-1. It is suspected that PW-1 may be under surface water influence. A series of State-required tests and sampling procedure has been underway since that time. Raw water quality in PW-2 has remained normal. Loudoun Water conducted a meeting with the community in mid-May to relay what had been determined to date, and to also describe our planned actions (Invitation Letter Sent). Approximately 30 residents attended that meeting, along with representatives from Van Metre and the Golf Course. At that meeting, residents requested we stay in contact frequently with our progress. The following PDF documents capture Loudoun Water's weekly actions on the system, including investigations into the source of contamination, the exploration of new water sources and the exploration of treatment for PW-1. These Updates have been e-mailed directly to residents who requested them. Approximately 44 people receive this Update, inlcuding 30 Raspberry residents; 4 Loudoun Water Staff; Your Supervisor Sally Kurtz and her assistant; 2 gentlemen from the Golf Course; 2 gentlemen from Emery and Garrett Groundwater, our ground water consultants; 1 person from Hazen and Sawyer, our engineering consultant; 2 from Van Metre; and one from Marquis Homes.
Wastewater is collected and treated to a high degree at the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). Most organic material and nutrients are removed through biological treatment before being disinfected and discharged to an unnamed tributary of Limestone Branch.

A Wellhead Protection Program was developed in 2004 by a citizen advisory group, which comprised citizens from all of Loudoun Water's Community Systems. The Plan had several recommendations for protecting the source for the wells in each community. Many of the recommendations were centered upon keeping the community informed of issues affecting their well quality. Loudoun Water followed these recommendations by sending the Community a Wellhead Protection brochure (once in 2005 and again in 2008) and a Wise Water Landscape Guide (once in 2006 and again in 2007); plus, Loudoun Water periodically mails information to all residents about water conservation.
This Citizen Advisory Committee is getting ready to reconvene this fall. Look for updates of their work at this web page.
