UPPER FOLEY SEWAGE PUMPING STATION

Go Back   Print Page

In 2006, Loudoun Water completed construction of the Upper Foley Sewage Pumping Station. The station is designed to serve as a central collection point for sewage from projected growth and development in the Upper Foley Branch and Piney Branch watersheds of the Bull Run. The station is located east of Gum Spring Road and south of Braddock Road.

Sewage flowing through large regional sewer mains to the pumping station will be pumped uphill through a 20-inch diameter force main to the Upper Broad Run Sewer Interceptor, which has its upper end in the Stone Ridge subdivision. The station provides pumping capacity for an average daily flow of 1,400,000 gallons per day using two large, electric-motor pumps, each capable of handling the entire daily flow.

The station is inspected regularly and monitored continually by a data telephone line from the Loudoun Water Operations and Maintenance Facility in Ashburn. Back-up power is provided by a standby, diesel-engine generator to keep the station in operation in the event of a utility power failure.
