Loudoun Water and partners throughout North America today kicked off Drinking Water Week, a decades-long tradition led by the American Water Works Association. Taking place May 7-13 this year, Drinking Water Week is a celebration recognizing the vital role water plays in everyday life for both water professionals and the communities they serve.
Many people purchase de-icing salt and apply it to their roads, sidewalks and driveways when it snows or sleets. While this may seem like the best solution, when the salt melts the snow and the mixture enters storm drains. From here, the salt travels to our streams as untreated, polluted runoff which is harmful to our environment. This includes our drinking water sources, infrastructure like pipes and pumps needed to supply water to our customers.
Loudoun Water currently has crews out in the field mowing our water and sewer utility easements in parts of our service area. Areas include Lenah, Stone Ridge, Lansdowne, Cedar Crest and South Riding.
There will be additional mowing locations in the coming weeks. If you have any questions about easement mowing in your neighborhood, please contact Customer Relations at 571-291-7880.
