10/2/24: Reservoir Park Grand Opening Set for October 21, 2024!
Loudoun Water and NOVA Parks announced today that Reservoir Park will open to the public on October 21, 2024. Beginning at noon, the public will have access to the park, including picnic pavilions, hiking, fishing, boat launch and interpretive exhibits. This milestone is the culmination of many years of community input, stakeholder feedback, and careful planning, design and construction.
Reservoir Park is situated on the southeast side of Beaverdam Reservoir, located at 22211 Water Vista Drive, Ashburn, in eastern Loudoun County, Va., northwest of Washington, DC. The regional park is a partnership between Loudoun Water, which owns and maintains the 300-acre reservoir as a source of drinking water for Loudoun County residents and NOVA Parks, the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority, which operates 37 regional parks across Northern Virginia.
“We are extremely proud of the joint efforts that made Reservoir Park a reality. The unique partnership between Loudoun Water and NOVA Parks is a model for how two public agencies can come together and create something special for the community. What an amazing way to highlight the connections between source water protection, ecological health, and recreation,” said Loudoun Water Board Chair Terry Allen.
The innovative park design includes a welcome center, crew facility, boat rental facility, several picnic pavilions, trails, waterfront boardwalks, a bridge, site utilities, a restroom building, educational exhibits, and various other site features‒all designed with source water protection in mind.
“Great things come from partnerships. Reservoir Park at Beaverdam Reservoir is the culmination of a multi-year partnership between Loudoun Water and NOVA Parks. The end result is one of the best parks in the region that will serve people for generations to come. As a park built around a large lake, Reservoir Park embodies water conservation, nature, and recreation. This is the result of two agencies collaborating on a shared vision,” said Sean Kumar, NOVA Parks Chairman.
Boat rentals will be available October 26-27, and visitors may launch their own boats through the end of the season. Beaverdam Reservoir is currently accessible for fishing and boating via Mt. Hope Road.

03/01/24: Beaverdam Reservoir Public Water Access to Re-Open from Mt. Hope Road on April 1, 2024
NOVA Parks and Loudoun Water are pleased to announce that on-water recreational activities on Beaverdam Reservoir will re-open on Monday, April 1. Reservoir Park is still an active construction site with heavy equipment, therefore it is unsafe for pedestrians and motorists to enter the new park site, and access remains prohibited. The public will only be able to access the reservoir from the Mt. Hope Road parking area. Please note that parking may be limited and that boating and/or coming ashore in areas near the Reservoir Park construction area is prohibited. Please see map for accessible areas.
01/25/24: Reservoir Park Update!
Construction is nearing completion and the reservoir is nearly refilled. As an active construction site with heavy equipment, it is unsafe for pedestrians and motorists to enter the new park site and access remains prohibited. 08/25/23: Reservoir Park Update!
Reservoir Park construction momentum continues with significant progress. Drone photos from August show the welcome center and crew/rowing facility building coming together, along with the pier that extends from the future boat launch and rental area. As an active construction site with heavy equipment, it is unsafe for pedestrians and motorists to enter the new park site and access remains prohibited. After the initial draw down of the reservoir's water level last fall to complete pier structures, the reservoir is now refilling naturally. Once water levels are safe to allow recreational activities, water access will be reopened at the Mt Hope Road access point.

9/28/22 UPDATE! Reservoir Park Construction Getting Underway!
After many years of community input, stakeholder feedback, careful planning and design, construction for Reservoir Park is finally underway! Reservoir Park will be situated on the southeast side of Beaverdam Reservoir. The park is being funded and constructed under a partnership between Loudoun Water, which owns and maintains the 300-acre reservoir as a source of drinking water for Loudoun County residents and NOVA Parks, a regional park authority in Northern Virginia.
The innovative park design includes an entrance road, parking lot, welcome center, restroom building, crew facility, boat rental facility, several pavilions, trails, waterfront boardwalks, a bridge, plantings, site utilities, educational exhibits, and various other site features -- all designed with source water protection in mind.
With the project starting, there will be new rules for public access. Beginning October 1, reservoir water levels will be drawn down to facilitate construction. To ensure the safety of park users, water access will be closed beginning on Monday, October 17. Fishing, boating, paddling or other water activities will not be permitted. Once construction activities allow for the reservoir to refill naturally, and the water reaches a safe level, access will be re-opened.
During construction, NOVA Parks will continue to manage public access of the surrounding property. Trails near the southeast portion of the reservoir will be closed during construction. Restricted areas will be well-marked for visitor safety by Meridian Construction Co., Inc.
At this stage, it is anticipated that substantial completion of Reservoir Park will be in the first quarter of 2024 and the park grand opening will take place in Spring/Summer 2024.

The park design includes an entrance road, parking lot, welcome center, restroom building, crew facility, boat rental facility, several pavilions, trails, waterfront boardwalks, a bridge, plantings, site utilities, educational installations, and various other site features.
Together, Loudoun Water and NOVA Parks have developed Reservoir Park to promote the health and wellness of local citizens and visitors. Interpretive destinations will focus on their strong partnership, highlighting the connections between ecological health, human health, and recreation -- as well as their mission to protect the natural resources entrusted to their care.
The park will include educational features to inspire a sense of stewardship in all visitors. Exhibits illustrating the importance of the reservoir and its ecology will be designed to help people understand the value of water to everyday life. Source water protection themes will be featured throughout the park to remind visitors that the reservoir is first and foremost a source of clean drinking water for Loudoun residents.
In mid-July, the construction contract for Reservoir Park was awarded to Meridian Construction Co. Inc., with plans for the project to kick off in September 2022. At this stage, it is anticipated that substantial completion will be in the first quarter of 2024 and the park grand opening will take place in spring 2024.
During construction, NOVA Parks will continue to manage public access of reservoir and surrounding property. Certain construction activities may require some interruptions to reservoir access, but that is unknown at this time. Currently, visitors can bring their own non-gas, car-top launch vessels during daylight hours including kayaks, canoes, jon boats and stand-up paddleboards. Small electric motors are permitted, but trailers are not permitted.

The Beaverdam Reservoir Open House took place on December 14, 2016 at the National Recreation and Park Association in Ashburn.
Beaverdam Reservoir Renovation Project Begins November 1, 2016
Beginning November 1, 2016, Beaverdam Reservoir's marked trails will be open for public access from dawn to dusk. During the renovation project, water access will be prohibited. No fishing, boating, paddling or other water activities permitted starting November 1. The park access gate will be closed promptly at dusk. For more information on the renovation project, please visit our Current Projects page. Look for upcoming information on the next public input session that will be held before the end of the year.
October 2015 Community Input Session:
On October 27, 2015 Loudoun Water and NOVA Parks hosted a community open house at the National Recreation and Park Association to gather input on recreational uses and other ideas to shape the greater vision for Beaverdam Reservoir. The UVA Institute for Environmental Negotiation was also on hand to assist.
Approximately 200 people participated. They represented a broad range of interests, including personal safety, environmental education, recreational use (fishing, rowing, kayaking/canoeing, hiking/trails, mountain biking, and equestrian), nature enthusiasts and local resident perspectives.
This newsletter provides an overview of the meeting and is the first opportunity for the community to review the range of input and ideas provided at the open house.
