Update: December 6, 2016 - The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has identified the source of the Potomac River sheen.  See the press release from EPA HERE.

Background:

A sheen was spotted on the surface of the Potomac River on Sunday, November 27, 2016. Since being notified of the event, Loudoun Water’s drinking water wholesaler, Fairfax Water, has been taking precautions to protect the water supply.

There is no need for customers to take any action or precautions at this time. Fairfax Water is using its submerged off-shore intake which avoids the withdrawal of potentially contaminated surface water into the Corbalis water treatment plant. Loudoun Water will provide updates to customers as necessary.
